Here we go. You just created an account, and by doing so you just made one of the wisest decisions in your life. Now is time to make the first step. What you will see after signing up is this page.
On LRND your knowledge base is organised in modules. Each module may correspond to a broad range of use cases. For instance a specific topic you are currently exploring (e.g. History, Marketing, Cooking etc.), an exam you are preparing for, a project you are running with your friends, a presentation you are putting together... you get the point.
As a first step, you are invited to create your first module.
To do that, you click on the "Add Knowledge Base" blue button.
A box pops up asking you to name the module and add a description. You click on "Save Module" and your first module gets created.
You are greeted with a new environment with a number of options. Even though it may look a bit overwhelming in the beginning, I can guarantee you'll feel at home once I get you through the next steps. Let's zoom in and take one step at the time.
Starting from top left corner you see the title of your new module with the description right below. Bear in mind you can always edit those by clicking on the pencil icon next to the title.
To its right you can see the "Tutor Status". That indicates the current status of the module, which in this case is "Not Started" since we haven't trained the tutor yet.
Next to it, you find the "Build Tutor" button you will click to train your tutor on the documents uploaded on this module.
To its right you find the "Ask Tutor" button, which opens the tutor chatbot. In this case is not clickable since we haven't trained any tutor.
On the top right corne you can see the share button, you can use to... well can you guess it by yourself π€π.
Right below you find three tabs:
"Notes" where you can create and store all your personal notes using our bespoke notepad. More on that here.
"Learning Materials" where all the uploaded documents are stored (e.g. Textbooks, presentations, handouts, audio, etc.) in multiple formats. More on that below.
"Chat History" where all the conversation with your tutor are stores and organised. More on that below.
By default your module shows your learning material tab.
On this tab you have three commands:
"Add Materials" which allows you to upload external documents to the module. More on that later.
"Search" that you can use to quickly look for a specific file in the tab.
Next to it, you find the filter icon to order your files by: Name, Type, Status and Date Added.
As you can see no learning material has been added yet. That's an easy fix! All you have to do is click on the "Add Materials" button and choose your favourite source. More on that here.
As you can see you have three options:
"Add from Library" allows you to draw from your LRND knowledge lake. More on that here.
"Upload File" allows you to draw from your computer.
"Add URL" allows you to copy and paste the URL of a webpage (e.g. Wikipedia) and use it as source material to train your tutor.
In this case we'll chose "Upload File" as an example and once we click on this option we'll get to the following:
In here you can either drag-and drop your desired file or click on the "Browse" button and select the file(s) you wish to upload. Which is what we are doing next.
Here I am uploading a Marketing textbook in PDF format. Please bear in mind you can upload files in various formats at the moment including: PDF, EPUB, PPT, DOCX, MP3 and Text. More on that here.
Once the upload has been successfully completed the file appears on the "Learning Materials" tab with the corresponding: name, type, status (in this case successfully uploaded) and Date added. Next to it you'll see a menu icon under "Actions" column.
By clicking on that you can access a few options:
You can view the original document
You can generate study cards (more on that here)
You can generate tests as multiple choice questions (more on that here)
You can delete the selected file
On LRND once you have uploaded all the material you need it is time to train your tutor. To that you click on the "Build Tutor" button on the right top corner. And wait for the magic to happen.
Once you have clicked on that, you'll see a few things change:
The "Tutor Status" has now changed to "Processing"
The "Build Tutor" button has now changed to "Building"
Depending on the size of the material used to train the tutor, the process can vary from a few seconds to a few minutes. So we'll use this time to explore another feature of LRND.
On the left hand side, you can see two menu items. By clicking on "Modules" you get to new page where all the modules you have created are stored.
On this page you can already see the module you have just created. Above that you see the options to filter the modules on the page by:
Recently viewed
Created by you
Shared with you
On the top right corner you have the option to create a new module, the same way we've just done on the module dashboard, by clicking on the "Add" button.
If we focus on the module we've just created we can notice a few things.
The card contains a few relevant information:
The title of the module
"Processing" indicating the tutor training is still in process
"Private" meaning the module hasn't been shared with anyone yet.
Who created the module
The creation date
On the bottom right corner you'll notice a menu icon. By clicking on that you can access a new set of options.
On this menu you can access a few shortcuts. You can:
Rename the module
Share the module.
Open the chatbot
Create a note
Delte the module
If we want to get back to the module dashboard, close the menu and click on the card.
On the dashboard we'll notice a few interesting things:
"Tutor Status" has now been updated to ready since the training was successfully completed.
The "Build Tutor" button has changed to Re-Build Tutor.
The "Ask Tutor" button is now active and ready to go.
By clicking on the "Ask Tutor" button you can access your tutor and start chatting.
The tutor is designed answer your question drawing from the learning material you have uploaded. This way all the info you get are not contaminated with biased sources as it may happen when you interrogate LLMs such as Chat GPT and similar.
On the other hand, if you don't find the info you are looking for within the learning materials you have trained the tutor with, you have the option to navigate the Internet through our conversational search engine.
You can do that by clicking on the option menu placed on the query bar.
On the top right corner you'll notice a couple of options:
The first icon allows you to start a new chat
The second to visualise the chat history
To go back to the module dashboard you can click on the arrow on the top left corner.
Once you are back onto your dashboard, you can now see the list of all your conversations with the tutor by selecting the "Chat History" tab.
In the "Actions" column you now have the options to:
Continue the conversation
Rename the conversation
Delete the conversation
By clicking on the "Note" tab you can create a new note by clicking on the "Add Note" button. More on that here.
And thatβs it! You now know how to create a module, add learning materials, train your tutor, and interact with it. Weβre excited to see how LRND.Ai will help you in your learning journey. If you have any questions, feel free to explore our other tutorials or reach out for support.
Thank you for choosing LRND.Ai, and happy learning!
